The last few months have been full of questions pertaining to the the man who wishes to revolutionize the corrupt Indian Government. Can this social activist and now a prominent leader bring up a successful anti corruption movement or will his determination just fade away with time? Will this 74 yr old from a village unheard of, bring a change that the world will talk about? Will his “GANDHIGIRI” work or is it just movies where anything and everything is possible? With so many questions and so few answers, one can only hope that this man stands out and makes the much talked CHANGE!! Most of you all know Anna as the person who took initiative with his Jan Lokpall Bill..But there are a lot of other reasons why he has become a national hit. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan—the third-highest civilian award—by the Government of India in 1992 for his efforts in establishing his village-Ralegan Siddhi as a model for others .He started a no alcohol movement in his village and anyone found drunk, was tied to pillars and then flogged, sometimes by anna himself. He also started the Grain Bank system in his village, where rich famers would donate a quintal to the bank which could be borrowed by budding farmers. Many other plans like Milk production, removal of untouchability, education, collective marriages( amazing idea where marriages of many poor farmers were clubbed into one massive function) and the Gram Sabha. After he had changed his village, it was time to think bigger and that’s when anna gave thought to the idea of ripping corruption apart from the system. In 1991, he put his ideas into action and launched the Bhrashtachar Virodhi Jan Aandolan (BVJA) (People's Movement against Corruption) and it was showing its effects..from villages, he moved to talukas, then districts and suspended several officers while putiing some beyond bars. It wasn’t easy, he made several enemies, but for what was necessary, he believed risks had to be taken. And then came 2011 where he drafted the JAN LOKPAL BILL….for the people, by the people…!! HE was clear what he wanted and would go to any limits to achieve his dream. After the bill being rejected by the government and anna’s request not taken seriously, he decided the government needed a wake up call. And do he decided to go on a fast..and gandhigiri paid off…after a 98 hr fast, government bowed down and once again anna showed the world that the gandhian way succeeded…Be it Mumbai,Delhi,Banglore, every city was chanting one name….ANNA HAZARE!! Well I think what made him so special was that he had the balls to start a movement so huge that if it were implemented , half of the lok sabha would be behind bars.and after a long time, ive seen the country united..as ONE!! I havnt seen the future, I dunno the outcome, but there is one thing I do know…and that is this movement has got the long lost conscience of the people back and its time they realize….you will bring the change..anna wont!!
